“Global File System (GFS) is a cluster file-system for operating
system distributions based on the Linux kernel. It is used as a
shared file-system commonly on share-accessible block storage such
as fibre-channel, shared SCSI, iSCSI and FireWire (IEEE 1394)
devices. Logical Volume Manager (LVM) is a Linux kernel component
and a set of user-land utilities which allow a system-administrator
to group physical block storage devices into logical storage pools
and create logical block-storage volumes out of them which are more
wieldable and manageable and provide some useful features over the
partition approach. LVM2 is a newer version of LVM, which is
intended for use with the Linux 2.6.x kernel and also contains some
new features. GFS is developed and commercially supported along
with LVM and LVM2 by a company called Sistina, which was acquired
by Red Hat in January, 2004…”
