PRNewswire: 3D Graphics Support Moves to Linux Laptops

“The first 3D graphics support for Linux laptops has been
announced by Xi Graphics Inc. (www.xig.com). The Denver-based
company has extended its OpenGL Compliant 3D Linux Graphics Drivers
(LGDs) product line to include new laptop models that have
3D-capable graphics hardware.”

“This is the first 3D support for laptops running Linux to our
knowledge,” said Lee Roder, Xi Graphics’ sales manager. “Recent
advances in graphics hardware, video memory and CPU speed mean that
some laptops are now rivaling desktop performance. In particular,
the Linux Graphics Driver for the IBM ThinkPad A20p with 700 MHz
speed and the ATI Rage Mobility 128 graphics chip with 16 MB of RAM
is really impressive.

“In January, Xi Graphics announced a new Web-based product line
of 3D graphics hardware drivers for desktop Linux. The initial
laptop driver release includes three models from two manufacturers:
the Toshiba Tecra 8100, the Toshiba Satellite Pro 4260 and the IBM
ThinkPad A20p.”
