CMPNET: Netscape Communicator 4.5--Smart browsing?

Oct 22, 1998, 16:48 (0 Talkback[s])

This release offers new browsing features for the end user, but little to Web developers hoping for more solid support of core Web technologies.

What Communicator 4.5 does offer is "smart browsing," a feature that substantially changes the browsing experience and ties this browser very tightly to Netscape's new Netcenter site. The browser also leverages Alexa's site-recommendation service through a What's Related button.

Communicator 4.5 also offers substantially better support for corporate users in the form of an IMAP mail client, the ability to access your Communicator settings from any machine (including a PalmPilot), and a calendar program.

Complete story.
