GartnerGroup: Browser Deployment: Standardization Revisited

May 22, 1999, 23:47 (4 Talkback[s])

"Browser standardization is not often recommended. Enterprises compelled to commit to a browser should re-evaluate that decision."

"Anytime access to, and development for, the global Internet is a goal, standardization is not recommended."

"Enterprises that feel compelled to commit to a browser should revisit that decision and consider supporting a heterogeneous browser environment. Ideally, corporate Web-based applications should be developed to support multiple browsers (i.e., Netscape's Navigator and Microsoft's Internet Explorer). We recommend keeping browser processing to a minimum and using least common denominator technology when there is not a clear business benefit to do otherwise."

Complete story.
