"Following the footsteps of ERP (enterprise resource planning)
majors like SAP, an Indian company has now ported its ERP software
on the Linux platform. The software which aims to provide
low-cost solutions for the small and medium enterprise segment was
launched at Intelligent Enterprise '99 on Wednesday."
"There are at least three million companies - with a turnover
below Rs 5 crore - which want to have a basic ERP system," said
Jaiwant R Priokalar, managing director of the Progen ERP Systems,
which launched the software. Linux is estimated to have 10 million
users with around 50,000 from India, he added. The product is
priced at Rs 1.99 lakh for a five-seat licence."
