"No-one needs this sort of bad feeling in the Java/Linux scene,
and if things could be patched up to the extent that Sun, Inprise
and Blackdown could work together on future JVMs, or at the very
least acheive an orderly and civilised handover, I imagine things
could go well.
"After all, one of the important considerations here, which
Sun and Inprise and, for that matter, IBM, seem to be forgetting,
is that Linux does not exist only for the Intel x86
architecture. Blackdown have at least been working on porting
the JDK to some of the other supported architectures. Linux with a
good JDK on Alpha or PPC would be a very exciting development, for
example. One clear advantage of any Open Source JDK would be in
ensuring that these ports take place."
