"Corel Corp. today announced its intentions to acquire Inprise/Borland Corp. in a $2.44 billion stock swap that the companies say will create a "Linux powerhouse."
"Both firms have recently refocused their businesses around the open-source operating system after going through several directional shifts. Corel has at times developed Java applications, handheld devices and office suites. Recently, it announced a major Linux initiative, launching a desktop version of Linux in November as well as plans for Linux versions of its Office suite and CorelDraw and Photo Paint packages later this year."
"Inprise/Borland recently announced plans to offer a Java development environment for Linux and said Kylix, its set of rapid application development tools for Linux, will be released later this year."
