"VMware 2.0 provides a "fully functional PC in a window" running
on a host PC -- otherwise known as a virtual machine -- according
to officials with the Palo Alto, Calif., company. The platform is
built for Windows 2000, Windows NT and Linux.?
"It's a software-based PC within a standard PC," said David
Michaud, vice president of marketing for VMware. "You can run
multiple operating systems simultaneously [and] toggle between
operating systems ... as guest applications...."
"According to Michaud, the VMware platform provides BIOS,
memory, networking capability, dial-up access, file-sharing support
and sound; new features in VMware 2.0 include improved
performance, instant restoration of suspended virtual machine
sessions and SCSI disk support."
