"Dan Kusnetzky, IDC's director of operating environments, said Novell has missed a big opportunity with NDS in enterprise networks. 'They've had a window of opportunity for four years, during which Microsoft was talking about the wonders of Active Directory,' he said. 'They could have capitalized on the directory to increase their share.' "
"But Novell already has shifted its attack. Instead of looking at the enterprise OS market - where it has all but conceded first place to Microsoft - Novell is trying to catapult its directory technology onto the Internet with its NDS eDirectory platform."
"Novell's competitive marketing strategy, then, is to pigeonhole Windows 2000 as a technology locked into corporate networks - and, even then, of networks running just the Microsoft operating system.
