Companies such as Cisco and Foundry Networks Inc. combine an inexpensive box with higher performance and more flexibility than any home-grown Linux-based router could provide. To get the same level of reliability out of a system using the LRP software, for example, you'd have to install multiple hard drives or a flash system, not to mention backup power supplies and perhaps a redundant computer."
