"When Corel Corporation successfully ported their WordPerfect 8 to Linux, the general public began to take notice of this scrappy little operating system from Finland. Linux was actually becoming mainstream, everyone started saying. This just ticked some Linux veterans off even more, like they felt when their Great Aunt Petunia pinched them on the cheek and said "what a cute little one you are." Some veterans welcomed the new blood in the Linux application scene, although Sun's (nee Star Division) StarOffice had been a serious business productivity application on the Linux platform for quite some time before, so Corel's offering wasn't unique."
"This summer, Corel plans to up the ante, releasing WordPerfect Office 2000 for Linux: a complete office suite that contains WordPerfect 9, Quattro Pro 9, Presentations 9, Paradox 9, and Corel Central 9. If the Beta 1 release is any indication, this will certainly be the most robust office suite to hit the Linux scene to date...."
"There were a lot of things I liked about this version of WordPerfect. It has been some time since I used WP on any platform and the first thing that struck me was the designer's feel of the application. Clearly, Corel wants the user to think of this application as a design and layout tool as well as something to crank out the verbiage."
