"Jon Orwant has been named chief technology officer at O'Reilly & Associates, the Sebastopol, Calif., publisher of computer books that include a long list of open source code titles."

"O'Reilly President and Chief Executive Tim O'Reilly described Orwant as a modern Renaissance man. "He's a Perl programmer extraordinaire, serious computer scientist, writer, editor, wickedly entertaining speaker and all-around big-picture thinker," O'Reilly said."

"Orwant, who founded Perl Journal and ran it from 1995 to 1999, has written two books on Perl, including Mastering Algorithms with Perl, published by O'Reilly last year. He now serves on the technical committee of O'Reilly's Perl conferences. O'Reilly, which employs Perl author Larry Wall to continue development of the scripting language, has published numerous books on the subject."
