"Users who wanted a brand-name office suite for Linux got their wish on Tuesday, when Corel Corp. released its long awaited WordPerfect Office 2000 for Linux. Corel stockholders, however, were not pleased in the slightest with Corel's higher than expected Q1 losses, which the company announced Monday."

"While far from the first office suite for Linux--Applix's ApplixWare and Sun's StarOffice have been around for years--Corel's will be the most intuitive for Windows users. Besides being interface-compatible with WordPerfect Office 2000 for Windows, the suite's programs are file-format compatible with WordPerfect Office 2000 for Windows and Microsoft's Office 2000."

"WordPerfect 8 will remain freely available. But, a Corel representative noted that WordPerfect 9, and the other Corel Office Suite products will not be available for free download versions."
