"AOL Chairman Steve Case is set to unveil Netscape 6 in his keynote address at Internet World 2000 in Los Angeles. The new version is downloadable from Netscape Netcenter at 5.5 megabytes (MB) - about half the size of Navigator 4.08 - for quicker download and installation. Netscape 6 is based on speedier Gecko technology to bring content to users faster, the company says."

"'Powered by the open source Gecko technology,' Case said in a news release today, 'Netscape 6 will deliver more robust and lively content with new levels of speed, convenience and customization, and will allow people to take advantage of innovative new applications that reside on the Web, not just on their desktops.'"

"The company says the new Netscape browser offers a "more convenient experience" not only for personal computer users but also new TV set-top boxes, Internet appliances and Web-based kiosks on a variety of platforms, including Linux, Apple System OS, and Windows."
