"Up until recently, Java developers on Linux were definitely
second-class citizens. The latest releases came out on Windows and
Solaris, and a Linux release followed years later. In the past few
months, though, that has all changed."
"The IBM 1.3.0 JDK is available now in a prerelease "preview"
edition, from the IBM alphaWorks site. For those into version
numbers, this is technically the "IBM Developer Kit for Linux, Java
2 Technology Edition, Version 1.3.0 Early Release (Early Release
Developer Kit)." Note that the 1.2 JDK is generally associated with
the Java 2 specification."
"In my testing, the JDK worked as expected. I didn't have any
problems compiling Java source files, and applications seemed to
run. There are a few issues, though."
