"One of the greatest minds in the computer games field has to be Sid Meier. For those who don't know, Sid Meier created several games considered to be classics. The most revered game he created is Civilization. The game puts you at the helm of a "race" like the Romans, Babylonians, Egyptians or English, among others. The aim of the game is keep your people happy and alive. You also need to research technologies such as the wheel through to space flight. You win the game either by wiping out the other societies or by being the first to reach Alpha Centauri."

"Since the original Civilization was released about 10 years ago, there have been several sequels. The game has been split into two different franchises now because of a copyright dispute. Despite flashier graphics and more detailed game play, the new games can't match the original Civilization for addictiveness and playability."

"Unless you absolutely despise strategy games, Freeciv is one of the best examples of how good open-source software can be. Grab Freeciv and prepare to see your free time vanish."
