InfoWorld: HP OpenView extends its reach [to Linux]

"HP announced OpenView Express 2.0, which brings OpenView support and functionality to Windows NT and Windows 2000. In similar fashion, Dirig Software, in Nashua, N.H., unveiled its Smart Plug-In for the Linux environment to provide management capabilities for customers running applications on Windows-based systems that operate in conjunction with Linux servers running the Apache Web server...."

"By making Apache/Linux Web server environments accessible to enterprises that had little use for OpenView before, Dirig is helping the software management company target a new audience eager to consolidate its management products, said Bartlett, Ill.-based Meta Group analyst Corey Ferengul, program director of service management strategies."

"Dirig is getting HP to platforms [that HP] couldn't get to fast enough," Ferengul said. "These guys are someone to be taken seriously in the agent space. This gives a lot of credibility to HP."
