Re-Imagining Linux Platforms to Meet the Needs of Cloud Service Providers

"Tenon Intersystems, a Mac OS Web server developer, plans to offer a fully integrated X Desktop for Mac OS X, which is designed to provide "seamless integration" between an X Window display environment and Mac applications."

"Tenon's new X Window Server will be an easy-to-use, flexible Mac OS X application that will integrate the best elements of Apple's Aqua desktop with state-of-the-art X Window tools to provide a powerful extension to Apple's new OS," says company spokesperson Anita Holmgren."

"Pay attention here. The new X Desktop is pronounced "X" as in "X marks the spot." But the X in Mac OS X is pronounced "10." Got that? Okay, X Desktop will purportedly not only allow remote X applications to be displayed on the Mac OS X desktop, but will also include complete set of X tools and libraries to support local execution of X applications and X games on OS X. Extending Mac OS X with an X Window porting environment will enable high-resolution 3D-modeling and animation, graphical visualization and image rendering applications to be built directly on Mac OS X, says Holmgren."

"Tenon's X Window Server application will be downloadable as a public beta as soon as Apple's OS X public beta is available. The final product is slated to ship when Mac OS X ships in early 2001."
