"This month the Linux community watched as Xi Graphics (www.xigraphics.com) made a fascinating and perfectly predictable business mistake: they underestimated the power of open source software."
"Xi Graphics made the bold move of releasing a version of CDE (Common Desktop Environment) as a commercially available Linux desktop, directly competing with established desktop environments such as GNOME and KDE, who currently hold a majority of the Linux desktop user's attention. CDE is a desktop environment which has existed in the UNIX-driven server world for quite some time. It's based upon the Motif libraries, which have quite recently been released under the Open Group Master Software License."
"This license permits use, reproduction and redistribution of the Motif source code. Xi has named their new software DeXtop, and states that it is "basically OpenMotif v2.1.3x integrated with CDE v2.1", both sourced from the OpenGroup Organisation, responsible for releasing Motif for use in the open source community."
