"Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW) today announced the availability of Netscape 6 Preview Release (PR) 2 for Solaris Operating Environment, an early access version of the Netscape 6 browser for its Solaris Operating Environment. Sun is committed to bringing the leading browser technology to its customers and Netscape 6 is the fastest, smallest and most secure version yet. With this release, Sun is enabling customers of its Solaris operating environment to evaluate and plan for deployment before the release of the final version."

"Netscape 6 will keep our customers on the forefront of browser technology and this preview release will give them a first opportunity for evaluation and deployment," said Marco Boerries, vice president and general manager of Webtop and Application Software at Sun Microsystems, Inc. "In addition to giving our customers the latest browser technology, we continue our commitment to developing and supporting open technologies like the Mozilla project."

"In addition to providing this early access version, Sun will continue to make contributions to the Mozilla project including providing support for key industry standards like XML and will continue supporting the open-source community through our Java (TM) 2 technology contributions. These contributions will provide developers a compelling solution for writing Web-based Java applications that integrate seamlessly with Netscape 6."
