"Sometimes it's hard to understand why so many people bother to
take notice of what Bill Gates has to say about any technology.
It's not that the man is stupid - he clearly isn't. And it's not
that the man might sometimes be less than truthful - though his
video testimony in the recent antitrust case is, let us say,
"Actually, I'd argue that Mr Gate's position at the pinnacle of
the largest software developer is a good reason NOT to take notice
of what he has to say about technology - especially when he is
talking about software and most of all when he is talking about one
of Microsoft's rivals."
"Earlier this week Mr Gates attempted to subtly undermine Linux
in an interview with Australian IT. You can read my colleague's
take on that interview here. Deconstructing the text provides
an interesting insight into Microsoft's comprehension of Linux and
Open Source and some interesting pointers as to how Microsoft will
attempt to compete with Linux - particularly in the server space.
It also exposes Microsoft's vulnerability."
