enterprise management software, today unveiled an interim 0.4.0
release of the OpenNMS solution to the open source development
community. The 0.4.0 version is the first release by OpenNMS.org of
a functional network management product that is freely available as
an open source product for downloading, testing and deployment by
any software developer, including the approximately 2,500 members
of OpenNMS.org and other early adopters."
"The 0.4.0 release is a "single box solution" that offers a
subset of features appropriate for Internet Service Providers
(ISPs) and other smaller, middlepris e-level organization. A
full-featured version with distributed architecture and full
functionality for larger, enterprise-level organizations is
scheduled for release and beta testing in January 2001. The full
featured release is built with a scalable architecture designed for
the world's largest networks. It will provide "out of the box"
functionality, platform portability , and integration points with
existing tools while encouraging customization and returning
