"The Free Standards Group is pleased to announce the 1.1-beta
release of the Linux Development Platform Specification (LDPS).
After a two week public review of LDPS 1.1-beta, we will release
"The LDPS is designed so that programs developed on a conforming
platform are expected to be portable to all generally available
Linux distributions. We recommend that all independent software
developers create binary versions of their applications using
distributions conforming to the LDPS."
"As one of the efforts of the Free Standards Group, the Linux
Standard Base will soon define a base Linux platform that will
provide the means to make something like the LDPS unnecessary.
Until then, the LDPS provides a set of guidelines to help
developers avoid or cope with existing portability problems that
will continue to exist while the Linux Standard Base is being
completed, refined, and widely adopted."
