"The time has come to deliver the Linux desktop. The
failure of past efforts based on premature expectations and flawed
business models certainly instills a sense of caution, yet the
broad embrace of the increasingly mature Linux OS makes this a
propitious moment to harness the spirit of open source in the
service of corporate and individual users.
This is a working manifesto to describe how a new Linux company,
code named "Riptide Linux," can serve as a locus of desktop
implementation, and avail the opportunities such a strategic
position provides.
For a system with, as yet, little end user impact, Linux, with
it's wry and satisfied penguin mascot, has enormous brand
recognition. The Linux craze among investors inevitably led to
disappointments, but there remains a broad and receptive audience
for Linux among the computing public."
