"On the eve of this week's LinuxWorld Conference & Expo,
eclipse.org on Tuesday shipped what it believes is the first beta
of a fully operational C/C++ Integrated Development Environment
(IDE) on Linux workstations.
"The new tool set, sponsored by IBM and Red Hat, is a
multi-language tools environment intended to complement users'
existing Java implementations, officials from both companies
said.
"'Virtually every software development group we've spoken to
says it is looking for an IDE that supports C and C++ in addition
to Java,' said Michael Tiemann, Red Hat's CTO and founding Steward
of eclipse.org. 'This includes projects built in-house and third
party applications running on the gamut of enterprise servers to
embedded platforms.'..."
