Re-Imagining Linux Platforms to Meet the Needs of Cloud Service Providers
In a new feature on Linux Today, release
announcements will be collected through the day and posted as a
daily digest. A new category, Releases, will be used to denote this
new type of posting. Digest postings will be made for Linux
applications that we are made aware of by 1900 GMT.
I am pleased to announce the first stable version of phpGeneral,
a web application for administration licensed under LGPL. This
version (0.4.0) is the first one in a new series of stable
releases. Don't worry about the 0.x version number. It should only
point to the fact that there are still some features missing.
phpGeneral is a web based framework written in PHP for user,
group and device management. Is was designed to simplify the tasks
of adding, deleting or modifying the information collected in a
database (currently only LDAP is supported) by providing an easy to
use interface to the object attributes. The most interesting
feature of this application is probably the tree view built by
using the structural elements provided by the LDAP server.
The framework is highly extensible because of its modular
architecture. There are several plugins available, which provides
additional capabilities, like the extension for managing cyrus
imapd user mailboxes. This is currently the module, which is most
often used by administrators.
