Internet Product Watch: Netscape 6.2.3 Released

"Other key features include support for Java 2, Standard Edition; integration with Net2Phone (allowing users to place phone calls via their Internet connection), and a new Auto Translate feature (based on Gist-In-Time from Allis Technologies) allowing users to instantly examine translations of Web pages written in foreign languages. Additionally, the latest releases add support for skins and personal privacy enhancements, including enhanced cookie and password management functions and a Personal Security Manager which stores all passwords in encrypted form and provides access to them through a single master password.

"A security breach in some Netscape 6.x versions has been discovered which allows malicious Web masters to craft a Web page such that it can read information from the user's hard drive. Netscape states that the breach effects Netscape versions 6.1--6.2.2 and recommends that users of those browser versions turn off JavaScript. While it could not be immediately comfirmed, it is believed that this vulnerability is corrected beginning with the now available version 6.2.3..."
