"The Malaysian Government's interest in Open Source software is
strictly a pursuit of national interests, and was not about taking
sides in the Open Source versus proprietary software debate.
"Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad indicated last
week that the Government was not tapping Open Source software due
to any ideological preference, but simply a matter of looking after
'the interests of the country.'
"'We are not guided by any bias against proprietary software, we
are only concerned about the interests of the country... the cost
efficiencies and other benefits that Open Source software can
provide us,' he told reporters at a press conference at the end of
the Sixth Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) International Advisory
Panel (IAP) meeting..."
