"Mel Gorman announced on the lkml that 'this is a beginning of the end release of the VM documentation against 2.4.20 as it contains information on pretty much all of the VM.' He notes that there has been much cleanup and the addition of several chapters since his previous announcement about a month and a half ago.

"The documentation is broken into two sets, together offering an impressively comprehensive explanation of how the Linux VM works in the current stable 2.4.20 kernel. The first guide offers an in-depth explanation of how the VM works, detailing the functions and algorithms used. The second guide offers a detailed code commentary of the related VM code 'to guide through the sticky parts.'

"Mel notes that he if he adds any documentation for the 2.5 development kernel, it will be in the form of addendums describing the differences, rather than a whole new article. He goes on to add, 'I'm now hoping people will read through it, tell me where and if I've made technical errors, suggestions for improvements or tell me where I've missed on topics that really should have been covered...'"
