"At the developerWorks Live! show last week, IBM officials
articulated expansive plans for WebSphere Visual Studio, Big Blue's
Eclipse-based crossplatform development environment. The next
edition of the toolkit for Linux and Windows developers will
include a new tool for autonomic or 'self-maintenance' computing,
now entering beta. Over the longer term, future directions include
aspect-oriented programming and semantic Web.
"Currently in version 5.0, WebSphere Visual Studio uses Eclipse,
an open-source integrated development environment (IDE), as its
