Over that time, I have experimented with new effects here and there and tried to do things that I had in mind and I have been fairly successful each time. And over that time period, I've had time to develop my toolkit of different types of effects.

Typically these will be perl scripts, so a working knowledge of perl is absolutely essential, but you don't have to know much more than for loops and file operations.
