"It wasn't long after the news surfaced today that Microsoft might make the source code behind SQL Server available to customers that ZDNet's TalkBack was buzzing with analysis of the details. As Microsoft, on a very selective basis, makes certain pockets of the gazillions of lines of copyrighted code behind all of its software available under differing terms, it's definitely taking a step in the open direction -- a step that Microsoft should be commended for. But concluding that, as a result of these 'releases,' that Microsoft is having serious open source inclinations is a bit of a stretch..."
