"An interesting thread on the lkml began with a patch to try and move an IOCTL call used to obtain the SCSI ID of a SCSI device from the block layer into the SCSI subsystem. Linux creator Linus Torvalds was quite vehement in his responses, explaining that there is no such thing as a SCSI ID, ;stop it now. We should kill that ioctl, not try to make it look like it is sensible. It's not a sensible way to look up SCSI devices, and the fact that some SCSI people think it is is doesn't make it so.' The heated debate has come up many times on the kernel mailing list, with arguments on both sides of the issue..."
