"So about 3 months ago, I put together a project plan to detail
my vision - free software only, BSD-like architecture with a ports
tree, desktop friendly and extremely easy to build custom versions
of. I sent a mail to all the LUGS in the country and to Richard
Stallman detailing it and calling for volunteers - it was a kind of
a firetest, if enough people said "I would like a distro like that
enough to help make it" - I would go ahead, if not, I wouldn't
bother. Many people expressed interest, about ten volunteered -
that was enough for me, so we started. Each of us putting in some
of our own time when we can - and working our way to what we saw as
the distro we needed."
