"Shane Geddes is one of the first batch of students to
enrol in New Zealand's first high school that uses only free and
open source software - the Albany Senior High School in Auckland.
"What marks Geddes (pic below) out from most of the other
17-year-olds who are now about to enter year 11 is that he is one
of three students who have taken to the new software so much that
he, along with two others, has completed two software projects for
the school.
"The infrastructure was set up by the same company - Open
Systems Solutions - that provided the software and hardware for the
school. After that, young Geddes went and tweaked the configuration
files of the various applications used using the command line,
until he got things looking the way the school wanted."
