Re-Imagining Linux Platforms to Meet the Needs of Cloud Service Providers
"I've ranted at length about mentioned
my theory that open source is fundamentally incapable of handling
user interface issues (and thus the continuing failure of
everything from "Linux on the desktop" in general to The Gimp and
OpenOffice's ability to become as usable as their proprietary
counterparts) because any time "shut up and show me the code" is
not the correct response to the problem at hand (which it isn't for
the touchy-feely "usability" stuff), the open source development
model melts down into one of three distinct failure modes:
* Endless discussion, which never gets implemented.
* Incompatible forks implementing the various approaches, which
can't be integrated in the absence of emprical tests to determine
"The Right Thing" to do"
