“Based on a recent thin client market survey, Reality Research
says that it expects the number of resellers providing thin client
applications in North America to nearly double by the end of 2000,
a substantial increase from the current 13,000 number.”

“According to Reality Research, it developed a profile of the
typical thin client user. Generally these users are larger
businesses with revenues exceeding $6 million per year. In
addition, thin client users also tend to be more heavily involved
than other businesses with healthcare services (45 percent) and
financial services (37 percent).”

“March explained this predominance among these two vertical
industry segments as coming from the fact that thin clients are
particularly useful when there is heavy usage of template
applications, such as in the completion and processing of
forms.”

“Reality Research cites several reasons for the anticipated
growth in the thin client market. First among these is the
“explosion” of the application service provider (ASP) market
,
which Reality Research says has brought server-based computing into
the corporate mainstream.”
