“JNI Corp. next week will release a Linux driver for its Fibre
Channel host bus adapters, looking to ride the coattails of the
work IBM Corp. and Oracle Corp. are doing to port their databases
to the open-source platform.“JNI’s Linux boogie is another attempt to break away from its
exclusive focus on Solaris in order to better compete with QLogic
Corp. and Emulex Corp. — its two primary rivals — for server
OEMs. In April, JNI introduced PCI-X HBAs with support for
Windows.“Shaun Walsh, VP of marketing at JNI, notes that QLogic and
Emulex also provide Linux drivers for their HBAs, but he claims
JNI’s HBAs outperform them. ‘We think we have a time-to-market and
a performance edge against the major competitors in the market,’ he
says…”
