introduced the concept of metaclasses, showed some of their power,
and demonstrated their use in solving problems such as dynamic
customization of classes and libraries at run-time.“That article proved quite popular, but there were elisions in
our condensed summary. Certain details in the use of metaclasses
merit further explanation. Based on the feedback of our readers and
on discussions in comp.lang.python, we will address some of those
