eWeek: Symposium Extends Embedded Linux

“Linux can reap new opportunities in the embedded-OS space with
some minor tweaks, according to a presentation today at the 2003
Linux Symposium.

“Hundreds of Linux developers and fans gathered at Ottawa’s
Congress Centre to trade ideas over the future of the emerging
embedded operating system, which has been used to power everything
from home stereo equipment to PDAs.

“Among Wednesday’s highlights was a presentation by Texas
Instruments Inc.’s Senior Linux Technologist Tim Riker, who
detailed the unique challenges of optimizing Linux for embedded
devices. Riker, who said he has been ‘hacking on Linux for a number
of years,’ said the open-source OS poses some problems for embedded
developers…”
