“HP has to show it can follow through and prove it is serious
about seeing Linux run on IA-64 systems from day one–and it will,
according to developers within HP Labs….”
“First of all, there was customer demand,” said Mosberger.
“Our customers started asking for Linux on IA-64, so we had to
figure out what to do in that space.“
“HP has the expertise in the Labs to work on the Linux kernel.
Mosberger worked on 64-bit Linux while he was a graduate student at
the University of Arizona. “Due to that work, I had a lot of
experience with 64-bit Linux, so when the opportunity showed up to
do Linux IA-64, I was, of course, very interested in doing that.
And that’s how this all came about initially.”
