KernelTrap: 2.6.0-test11-mm1; The Fate Of The -mm Patchset

“Andrew Morton recently returned from a few weeks away from
kernel development and released 2.6.0-test11-mm1 saying, ‘A fair
number of new fixes, none of them very serious. Most notably,
significant updates to the IDE drivers and to the psmouse, atkbd
and synaptics drivers.’ He followed up his comment ‘a fair number
of new fixes’ saying ‘and new breakage too!’, providing a small
patch with the fix which is available below.

“When asked his plans for the -mm patchset now that he’s also
maintaining the mainline 2.6 kernel, Andrew explained:

“‘We’ll start merging it up after 2.6.0. It’ll be quite a lot of
work, actually – a lot of things have been parked in -mm for some
time and may not have had sufficiently wide testing, especially on
non-i386. I need to ask the originators and others to re-review and
retest some things. I guess I’ll keep -mm going until there’s a
reason not to…'”
