“Linux creator Linus Torvalds announced that he has succesfully
imported the entire 2.6 Linux kernel development tree into git, his
once interim now likely permanent replacement for BitKeeper. He
points out that the source history was imported from the bkcvs
tree, ‘of course, this _is_ the cvs import, which means that it’s
basically just a straight-line linearization of the real BK
history, but it’s a pretty good linearization and so it’s certainly
useful.’ He goes on to note that the tree is his current ‘best
effort,’ using the cvsimport functionality that was added to git in
early June, ‘and obviously I’ll re-create it if there _are_ cvsps
or cvsimport bugs that cause the import to have problems…'”
