Lindows.com, Inc. today released LindowsOS 3.0 for retail
distribution.
“The softweare package, which is selling for US$129, is
purported by Lindows.com to offer the capability to run many
applications while maintaining compatibility with legacy Microsoft
Windows file formats.
“Until now, the value of Linux has been unavailable to 99% of
the world to experience first hand,” said Michael Robertson, chief
executive officer of Lindows.com, Inc. “Lindows.com, Inc. along
with our top-tier retail partners are now making this affordable
technology, LindowsOS, available to everyone so they can start
saving money on their desktop computing needs.”
The asking price for the Debian-based operating system includes
full access to the company’s Click-N-Run Warehouse service, an
online software library. With Click-N-Run, users can download and
install hundreds of software programs, including commercial
software such as Sun’s StarOffice, Tux Racer Deluxe, Photogenics,
and Hancom Sheet.
Using products from the Click-N-Run Warehouse, consumers can now
edit all of the most popular file types, including those for
Microsoft Word (.doc), Excel (.xls), PowerPoint (.ppt), Flash, Real
Audio, and most graphic file types.
Lindows.com is allowing users to forgo costly packaging for a
digital download, saving $10 plus any additional shipping charges.
Digital downloads are only $119.
