Linux Orbit Review Grab Bag #1: multi-gnome-terminal, Limewire, Metacity and More

“I’ve been trying out so many new versions of applications
lately that it’s been difficult to nail down a single title for an
in-depth review. Instead of taking a long look at one program,
we’re introducing the “Review Grab Bag”, the first in a series of
short takes on new and updated open source software titles. My hope
is that the Review Grab Bag will become a monthly series here for
Linux Orbit users. In this month’s Grab Bag, there’s a lot to
choose from. To begin, let’s take a look at the handy terminal for
Gnome users called multi-gnome-terminal.

“One of the big trends in web browsers these days is something
called “tabbed” browsing. GUI IRC clients like xchat have featured
tabs for quite a while, then Opera introduced this feature to their
web browser and Mozilla was soon to follow. Essentially, ‘tabbed’
browsing let’s you open multiple web browsing sessions within one
window. The tabs let you select which session you want to view in
the foreground while other sessions continue in the background.

“As convenient as tabs are, they’ve been slow to make their way
into other applications. Recently, I stumbled on a simple
application that has integrated tabs into the universal workhorse
for the *NIX community; the command line terminal. The
appropriately named multi-gnome-terminal is a great little program
that let’s you use tabs within a single window to organize your
command line sessions. In addition to its usefulness,
multi-gnome-terminal also provides a nice set of features that let
you set up the exact look and feel you prefer…”
