Linux Orbit: VMWare Workstation 3.1: Solid Upgrade to an Already Solid Package

“And yet for the average Linux user, the price of the
Workstation version puts the product out of reach. At $299.00 US
for the electronic download distribution (no CDs or dead-tree
manuals), the Linux hobbyist is not very likely to purchase VMWare.
And yet, it’s the envy of almost every Linux users because it is
just flat out cool.

“Having said that, it will be hard for you to think of me as an
unbiased reviewer. However, in addition to reviewing VMWare 3.1,
the latest update of VMWare Workstation, I’m also a dedicated
VMWare user.

“The facts are that although I appreciate how far Linux ‘Office’
products have come in the last year, many publishers won’t accept
free-lance submissions created with non-Microsoft products. Even
more require you to use templates that will only work 100% of the
time when writing with MS Word. For myself, that made VMWare
Workstation a legitimate business excuse to buy something I wanted
to try anyway…”
