“MontaVista Software Inc., developer of the Hard Hat(TM)
Linux® operating system for embedded applications, today
announces its Hard Hat Linux cross-development toolkit for
Motorola’s PowerPC(TM) microprocessors. The MontaVista offering
is the first product to enable embedded software designers to use
cost-effective Linux workstations for creating embedded Linux
applications targeting Motorola PowerPC processors….

“MontaVista’s growing engineering and executive team has an
unprecedented 100+ years of combined expertise in embedded and open
systems computing,” says MontaVista Software President and CEO Jim
Ready, a pioneer in real-time embedded operating systems. “We’re
delighted to be bringing the first true cross-development
environment for embedded Linux to LinuxWorld Expo.”

“Until now, embedded developers using Linux workstations as host
computers have had to limp along using native-hosted
cross-development tools. With MontaVista’s Hard Hat Linux
cross-development toolkit for PowerPC microprocessors, developers
can now streamline their entire development process and accelerate
time-to-market, whether designing Web-enabled devices,
telecommunications hardware or consumer prod- ucts. MontaVista
debuted its Hard Hat Linux distribution last year for CompactPCI
platforms, a popular choice for use in telecommunications and
Internet access applications. Motorola Computer Group, Force
Computers Inc., IBM and Embedded Planet are supporting MontaVista’s
Hard Hat Linux with Compact- PCI, embedded production and
evaluation boards.”
