Tools:
The purpose of maki is to serve XML files via the web. A web
developer can specify that the XML data be processed or transformed
through any number of steps. Each step is either a stylesheet
transformation or a custom process.
Zope 2.3.2b1 contains fixes for several issues that have come up
with 2.3.1, including several Catalog and FTP related fixes. Unless
something really important comes up, no further changes are
expected between this beta and the 2.3.2 final release.
“TinyCobol supports about 80% of the features recited in the
Cobol85 Standard. Allied with the fact of being free and open
source code, this makes it a serious contender for porting legacy
Cobol code to run in Linux systems. With the advent of FreeBSD and
Win32 ports, recently released, TinyCobol became multiplatform and
we expect its deployment to grow in the next months.”
PyWISARD is a WISARD implementation suitable to work with binary
images (PPM format). It contains a wisard neural network module in
python, a simple Tkinter GUI and a HTML presentation.
Libraries:
The Bonobo folks have made some small changes to Bonobo since the
initial 1.0 release. Here’s the scoop.
“Pango is a library for layout and rendering of text, with an
emphasis on internationalization. It forms the core of text and
font handling for GTK+-2.0.”
“If you install this version, do NOT replace your current GLib with
it. You should be able to install it alongside your current GLib
without disturbing your current GLib installation.”
“The API is mostly frozen at this point. Major API changes beyond
the remaining open ‘2.0 API freeze’ bugs in bugzilla are unlikely
to occur before GTK+-2.0 is released.”
The units conversion library provides a conversion facility from a
variety of scientific and engineering shorthand notations into
floating point numbers. This allows application developers to
easily convert value strings like “9.2 meters/second” and “20
miles/hour” into uniformly scaled floating point numbers.

Ashish Bansal tells you how to write dynamically loadable libraries
and suggests tools you want to use in the process. He reviews the
compilation process and naming conventions, and then walks you
through writing, compiling, and installing a shared library.

outline the creation of a fairly simple script, incidentally, the
