“One talk at Linux.conf.au that is sure to be of interest to
many Linux enthusiasts worldwide is “GNOME: Past, Present and
Future”, given by GNOME developers George Lebl and Maciej
Stachowiak….”

“So, where is the GNOME project headed after achieving such
heights last year? According to Lebl and Stachowiak, version 1.4
will be released sometime in February and will include many
enhancements as well as new features….”

“Many of the improvements are the result of user experiences
with GNOME. “The application launch feedback program is designed to
indicate that a program is in the process of being loaded,” said
Stachowiak. “We’ve had complaints about people clicking on the
Netscape launcher 10 to 15 times before the program appears on the
screen.”
