“The University of North Carolina’s Open Source Research
Team http://metalab.unc.edu/osrt/ has
released our first paper analysing the history of contributions to
the Linux Archives from 1993 to the present by looking at the Linux
Software Maps (LSMs).“
The findings, at http://metalab.unc.edu/osrt/develpro.html
, show among other things that:
- The Archive contributors are European.
- The Archive continues to grow at a very fast rate (since
1993) - That many many people contribute only one or two objects
(programs etc) to the Archive rather than a small amount of people
contributing many objects. - That the systems and apps categories are by far the largest
areas of contribution and that games is the smallest. That is Linux
developers are a serious sort (mostly).
